We had a lovely meal here last week with the steak special on Friday. The food was great, a sharer for two with a sauce each and two sides each. The portion was very generous! The puddings were delicious (rhubarb panacotta dish pictured) We went with our daughter and dog and it was a great venue for both of them

Not as good as expected if other peoples reviews are to be taken into consideration. We being 3 people had 2 beef which were overpowered by the smoked element of the cooking process which left an aftertaste in my mouth and a lamb which was nice with no issues. The beef was also very fatty, I know that chefs say fat is flavour but we found it too much in our opinion and we had the cauliflower cheese which was very good. The service was below par as had to ask for spoons to serve up the separate vegetables and cauliflower cheese but only got one, I know we could have asked for more but at these prices we shouldn’t have to. Also no horseradish or mint sauce was produced and again had to ask for them although they are stated on the menu as part of each dish. The table water wasn’t chilled which from the tap is a bonus in masking the chemicals in it. Had 2 puddings which were very nice. I don’t think we will go again anytime soon and if we do it’ll be for the general menu. The pub itself is very quaint and a lovely atmosphere. Possibly just an off day maybe but again at these prices it shouldn’t happen. FOOD 3 SERVICE 3 ATMOSPHERE 5

Dined at The Rising Sun for my birthday dinner with my husband and dog whilst holidaying nearby. Definitely up there as one of the best pubs or restaurants I’ve eaten at. Food was delicious, wine list fantastic and service 10/10. Highly recommend and will definitely be back if we’re in the area again.
