Sat under the railway tracks on Whitworth Street West, the not-so-best-kept-secret of Manchester has mastered all areas of the nightlife scene; fusing nightclub, bar and restaurant elements together to encompass a cool yet sophisticated vibe.

And as it is the brainchild of the people behind Trof and The Deaf Institute, this comes as no surprise.

The interior is a mixture of uncovered brick walls against white stone tiles along with lots of low lighting and some cool artwork hanging on the walls, devising the perfect balance between sophisticated and casual.

And this ‘cooler older sibling’ vibe is carried through into the menu too, with food that’s all free range and locally sourced as well as an in-house bakery so you can be assured you are getting only the best quality food.  Expect the usual Brunch classics alongside some quirkier options such as shakshouka and ‘Fat Elvis’ pancakes.

What can I say about gorilla...it's an amazing place to have an amazing meal & the atmosphere & staff are all welcoming & can't do enough to accommodate you. Me & my hubby went on valentines day (which is also my birthday) & we had an excellent service and an awesome meal would definitely be returning...5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Gorilla is both a restaurant and music venue. We stayed for food, which was excellent, as was the service - thanks Ros. I'd have given it a 5⭐ review except we needed to use the accessible toilet, but it was broken. Other than that it's well worth the visit & I'd love to go again to try the Tacos. The gig venue is fantastic, well lit with an exciting animated backdrop for all the bands. Mainly standing, but there's a raised area at the back with seating for 12. If you need to sit, which we did, this was perfect. The most comfy gig I've ever been to and the only sitting gig I've not been annoyed by those around me. Amazing to see Dekaytah, Black Gold and the legendary Pitchshifter in such a cool venue.

Didn't use the eatery section so can't comment on that BUT did go to a rave event in the club section. The club is a decent size and ideal for smaller events. Has reasonable sized and clean bathrooms, as well as a door that leads to a secure smoking area outside. There's a stage area and two bars to get drinks from. It was mine and my friend's first rave and also our first time in Manchester at night. But we felt very safe - security was on top of things and everyone was so friendly. The staff really helped to make the night run smoothly. The bars got very busy and you were queuing for a while, but no complaints aside from that. Would go again.
