5.0a month ago🚇 Herne Hill 🍺 £6.50 Paulaner The Florence is located opposite Brockwell Park in the leafy South London suburb of Herne Hill. The nearest station is Herne Hill mainline. This beautifully tiled pub was originally called The Railway Tavern, built in 1871. The name changed to The Brockwell Park Tavern in the 1890’s following the opening of Brockwell Park in 1892. It was renamed the Brockwell Park Hotel in the 1970’s, following a short period as Ganley’s Irish Bar, it became the Florence in 2007. This is a spacious and airy pub that is traditionally decorated with a contemporary feel. At the heart of the pub is an island severy with a modern back bar. The main bar area has plenty of seating both high and low plus interesting features like the wall clock, marble fireplace and leaded stained windows. Just off the main bar is a stylish dining area with an open kitchen. At the back of the pub is a patio beer garden, at the front of the pub our a few tables and chairs to watch the world go by. The beer selection is good and offers a choice of premium beers, London brews and cask ales. I decided on a Paulaner which is a favourite of mine, my pint was excellent, price point was above average. There is a classic pub grub menu available, Fish & Chips costs £18, Roasts take centre stage on a Sunday. I arrived just after 12pm on a warm Saturday lunchtime in September. The pub had just opened, so there wasn’t many punters in except a few in the beer garden. The atmosphere was calm with soulful tunes playing in the background. The service was great, there were a few team members beavering away preparing the pub all were friendly and welcoming. There is plenty on to keep you entertained with a Quiz on a Wednesday, DJ’s Friday and Saturday and Jazz on a Sunday. Visiting @theflorencepub was an enjoyable experience. I loved the Victorian glazed tiles that clad the exterior, the decor made for a pleasant environment to spend time in, the beer choice is good and the team are friendly. This pub is a good allrounder, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. 📅 21st September 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

5.02 months agoExcellent food and friendly service, busy bar but the restaurant was quieter which suited us, a little chilly though. My fish and chips was outstanding and the curry sauce was a nice touch, wine reasonably priced

4.0in the last weekDecent, good looking pub but colder than a fridge, strongly recommend bringing a small electric heater. No heating and no fire. Absolutely freezing. Even during this bleak midwinter the fire wasn’t lit and the heating most definitely wasn’t on, seems a bit much when the drinks are at premium prices. Smart interior, big garden. Professional staff & a good selection of beers including Asahi, food is okay/pretty good. Have yet to be served a pint that hasn’t had a stupidly large head on though, small annoyance. Heaving at the weekend, the roasts are popular. But honestly, winter/autumn time, if you’re planning to spend more than 20 minutes there absolutely dress for an Artic expedition. They don’t heat the place and the building holds the chill. We won’t be returning until the spring.
