Jalisco is run by a family of Latin American food-lovers in the heart of Brixton, who serve margaritas and micheladas alongside their weekend Brunch fare.

Inside is a vibrant burst of colour and sounds with a distinct Mexican cantina feel. Aim for a stool by the window to people-watch or head downstairs to the private dining space for a special occasion.

Warm, hearty and comforting, eating here is like taking a seat at your grandma’s table; their friendly and attentive staff keep guests well-fed and well-rested while the ambient music and cheery crowds give the atmosphere of a leisurely daytime fiesta. Food is colourful and punchy and spans the continent of Latin America to create drool-worthy fusion plates.

At Brunchtime, choose from either a burrito, tortilla or huevos rancheros. Then, choose your filling (these range from chorizo, smoked bacon with a pleasing roast vegetable mix for herbivores), your heat (from ‘dead’ to ‘F*** OFF – we’ll let you guess which is the spiciest!) and pair it with their delicious sides. We recommend trying plantain with cheese or the homemade guac.

Add a Breakfast cocktail like sangria or Bloody Mary or go pure with a freshly-squeezed juice or smoothie.

Jalisco is located a short walk away from Brixton Station, making it easy to access and visit.

The margaritas are to die for, absolutely delicious and a great deal especially at happy hour. I had the quesadilla with chicken and medium spice, tasted amazing! Great flavours and very well cooked. The wait staff were lovely, very friendly and kind. Would recommend 10/10 (also the people watching is fantastic)

It was a really weird experience. First, the waitress was really hard to communicate with—he didn’t want to speak Spanish with us but also didn’t know how to speak English. He never gave me the check, just told me the total, and even hit me on the arm as a “joke”, which I found very intrusive. I didn’t like it at all. I understand that back home, some people see that as normal, but for me, it wasn’t—I felt attacked. As for the food, it was just okay, nothing amazing. I ordered a passion fruit margarita, but it tasted spicy and off. When I mentioned it, the girl who made the drink tried it and told me it was fine. That was weird. Also, they took my plate away really fast, before I had even finished, even though the place wasn’t busy at all. In conclusion, it was a night where we felt unwelcome, gaslighted, and even attacked. I do not recommend this place at all
