We walked into this pub on a busy afternoon expecting a long wait, but were immediately offered seats at the bar—what a welcome surprise! Despite the crowd, the service was absolutely outstanding. The bartender Wayne didn’t miss a beat—friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made fantastic drink recommendations that we never would have picked ourselves, and they were spot-on. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, hearty, and full of flavor. I had the fish and chips and quite possibly the best I’ve had. My daughter got a veggie burger and said it was incredible. Even with how busy it was, everything came out promptly and perfectly. It’s rare to find a place where the energy is high, the service is personal, and the food and drinks are consistently great. We left full, happy, and already planning a return visit. Highly recommend grabbing a bar seat if you can!

After calling (the hotel) and being told to come on by, they said they were too busy but we begged to be seated and they thankfully found a spot for us. So glad we/I persisted, the food was great, the oysters were clean but a little warm for my taste. Fish and chips were perfect and I even tried a scotch egg I was so hungry! I also ate a veggie burger ^_^

We came in for a Sunday roast on 3rd August. We arrived without reservations and there were a lot of tables available. We ordered the Sunday roast for the 6 of us. This included beef, chicken, and Porchetta but mostly beef. The beef was downright disappointing. Extremely chewy. I am baffled by how a restaurant can charge so much and completely ruin something as iconic as a beef roast. Almost every bite was a struggle to chew and we had to sneak the inedible parts into a paper towel. As far as the beer and ciders, they were good. The service was very good all round, very friendly and courteous. Overall, I don't think I advise anyone to come here for a Sunday roast. The beef is just inedible.
