Nice building, food well presented but all fell a bit flat unfortunately. Service was slow, we received our mains before our drinks and had to twice ask after our drink orders, tap water didn't arrive until we re-requested it and tables were slow to be cleared. The roast lamb was excellent, as were the sides, but the beef portion was small for the price. Dessert special wasn't good (an overly set trifle that none of our party could detect any flavour in), but crumble was. Was served half melted ice cream by one waiter, had to request another waiter change it for unmelted ice cream as it hadn't occurred to the original staff member that perhaps customers don't want their ice cream melted. Overall, not the experience we had hoped for.

The place itself was lovely. The rooms are very nice as seen in the pictures. The bar and restaurant staff were very attentive and informative. I had fish and chips for dinner which was quite disappointing . The fish was really dry and the accompanying mushy peas were dry and far too small a portion. The tartare sauce serving was also very meagre and I only got about 5 chips. Chips were served in a metal cup and the peas and sauce came in tiny little pans. Personally I prefer my food straight on the plate without having to faff. I feel if they spent more time on the taste and quality of the dish it would have been a better trade off. At breakfast we were served by a surly waiter and a bad tempered chef who refused to make a small change to the full English to accommodate dietary requirements of one of our party. If your business depends on being good hosts then make sure that you are nice to your guests. It goes a long way.

Great food, let down by service. Arrived at 2.10pm for a 2.15pm booking for 5 plus a baby. We were asked to wait while a table was cleaned and laid. We sat down to menus already on the table but it took nearly 40 minutes for anyone to offer a drink. During this time we were twice brought desserts which clearly weren't for a table of people with all of their cutlery and napkins still fresh on the table and water glasses still empty. The area we were seated in was absolutely boiling, I assume because it was right next to the kitchen, which you can see through obscured glass. We all had roasts which were outstanding. The roast potatoes were easily the best of any pub we've been to and the meat was fantastic. We would absolutely eat here again. Easily one of the best local roasts on offer, and hope that the service, even if just to be offered a drink on being sat down, is a bit quicker.
