A great pub, obviously some history to the building, including an ancient well in the grounds. The food was great. The staff were friendly. Decent sized car park. Even the refillable drinks fountain was working properly!

Firstly, the wait staff seemed allergic to communication. No heads-up on when we could eat, and when we finally made our move to the buffet, the chef was too busy packing takeaway orders, leaving us standing there like extras in a bad sitcom for over five minutes. While we were still mid-bite, our plates started disappearing as if we were on some kind of timed eating challenge. Feeling reasonably happy with the meal so far, we asked for dessert—only to be told the kitchen was shut. At 8:45. When paying, the manager casually mentioned we could have dessert after all. Great! Except while we waited, the chefs emerged to clean the serving area… blasting music from a mobile phone like it was a kitchen rave. We could barely hear each other over the thumping bass. Then came dessert: we’d ordered sticky toffee pudding. We got muffins. Not even a “sorry, we’re out”—just muffins. The whole night felt surreal, funny in a “you couldn’t make this up” kind of way. Thankfully, our group is easygoing, but from start to finish we felt rushed, awkward, and mildly unwelcome. Definitely not the most pleasant of evenings.

Staff were great, Judith was lovely and very bubbly. Iain was very attentive and quick to clear our dirty plates. Food was good! Onion gravy specifically was delicious. I would suggest slightly louder music as it is quite quiet which can lead to overhearing other tables conversations.
