Myself & a friend enjoyed a lovely lunch. The food was beautifully presented & delicious ( albeit soup & a sandwich) with a portion of chips. The wine list was extensive & well priced. The place was spotless throughout & the staff were lovely & very professional. Happy to recommend.

Service and attitude poor. Two behind the bar not really knowing what they were doing. I asked for 2 diet cokes, told they don't have it but have a sugar free cola. They gave us 2 cokes that have 36 grams of sugar in each one. Asked for money back after queueing again. Told no but replaced with zero sugar cokes. The label pointed out these were very high in caffeine. So both were left. Here's the thing - a 33cl coke substitute costs £4.30 each !!! Where is £8.60 for 2 small cokes acceptable? Never be back - and you have been warned. Zero stars.

Yesterday, I wrote a 5 star review for the Station Hotel at Ribblehead, because they got everything right. Alas, I cannot report the same for the Black Bull.On arrival, I booked a dinner and breakfast time.On arrival for dinner, both bookings had been lost.Upon being found a table, I discovered that it was curry night, with nothing else available, including in the bar.So, I visited the Red Lion, and couldn't get in, because it was HEAVING.There is a message here.... So, for plan b, I popped into the pizza restaurant next to the Black Bull and got an excellent burger and chocolate cake, served straight away, with smiles, and no messing about. In fairness to the hotel, the room is lovely, but compared to last night's stay at Ribblehead, there is a way to go.Perhaps I will be blown away by tomorrow morning's breakfast, but my expectations are not high.
