Located in the idyllic countryside between Newquay and Truro, we have an exceptionally spacious garden for you to enjoy the Cornish sunshine (fingers crossed).

Welcome to our British restaurant and pub, with gardens, in the picturesque countryside of Cornwall, between Truro and Newquay. We offer sustainable British pub food, with a luxury approach. It’s a simple offering but really showcases the best of produce from in and around Cornwall. Our Sunday lunch is perfect to come and enjoy with your friends and family (and your dogs are more than welcome too!).

The name ‘The Tartan Fox’ is inspired by my Scottish roots and the location of the pub, which is nestled in the middle of a Cornish forest and, much like a fox’s home, is a den to escape in the countryside. A group of foxes is called an earth, which ties into my commitment to sustainability. I’m all about celebrating the history of this stunning 400-year-old Grade II listed building, which sits on a 30 acre estate.

Our menu gives a new walk of life to the classic pub dishes – refined with more luxury ingredients and a touch of Scottish influence too. With a focus on seasonal produce, we have created a regularly changing menu, working closely with local producers from in and around Cornwall. You’ll be happy to see some of our signature favourites from over the years too!

I visited today for lunch as a belated birthday gift from my niece and her husband. What an absolute treat it was. I've enjoyed lunch at The Ugly Butterfly so had high expectations and wasn't disappointed. I'm a huge fan of Adam's food and ethos. Our meal was faultless. Every dish was exemplary. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. A birthday card signed by the staff and presented on arrival was a lovely personal touch. The pub has a great relaxed atmosphere with some very interesting artwork on the walls. A roaring fire just added to the ambience. I will very much look forward to a return visit.

I can't recommend The Tartan Fox enough! From the moment we walked in, the warm, cozy atmosphere made us feel right at home, especially sitting next to the crackling log burner. The food was absolutely outstanding—every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented, showcasing the best of local ingredients. What really set the evening apart, though, was the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from start to finish. It was my wife’s birthday, and the team went above and beyond to make it memorable, surprising her with a series of thoughtful treats throughout the evening. It truly felt like they went the extra mile to ensure we had a special celebration. A perfect blend of excellent food, welcoming service, and a delightful atmosphere—The Tartan Fox has certainly earned a place at the top of our list. We’ll be back soon!

Amazing Christmas Day Lunch! Cannot find fault with anything the staff were brilliant, cheerful and accommodating. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and plentiful. The food ethics were very thoughtful, and as for the port n cheese.....I was disappointed I had no room for more! It really was freeflowing. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but not much different from other venues locally, and still very good value! We all had a really special memorable visit! Can't wait for our anniversary in feb, to go back .
