The mother and daughter team behind A Canteen are not the only reason for the family feel – the homely food and welcoming interior do the trick, too.

It’s an open-plan space, yet the cosy atmosphere and comfy seats give it a contemporary yet rustic feel.

Food lovers rejoice: there are ample glorious options to whet your appetite, like 'Nduja Eggs' with a flatbread, poached eggs, nduja, hot honey, caramalised onion and mint. Wash it down with 90 minutes of bottomless prosecco or a lager.

Wind your way through the bustling town centre before departing from Chelmsford Rail Station, just over a ten-minute walk away.

You HAVE to try the banana bread and belgian waffles. I nearly missed these options as they’re listed under grains! My friend and I shared them - such generous portions. Sad that I don’t live closer to Chelmsford - I’d be there every day!

My 7 year olds favourite place to go in Chelmsford. He enjoys the waffle, bacon and maple syrup - which isn’t actually on the menu but the staff always offer to do it for him, which is super cool. I had the small breakfast in this occasion and it was very tasty. The big stand out was the sausage which was rich and flavoursome. Staff were fun and welcoming which is always the case and we had a really pleasant time Saturday morning. Will be back no problem.

Another brilliant evening in at Acanteen - thank you. Heading over to somewhere like Chelmsford is a rare occassion for me & my friends who normally frequent restaurants, bars & clubs in London, Leeds & Manchester. However, now for the second time we've had a perfect evening enjoying early evening food & drinks at Acanteen. A brilliant setting, in the centre of town but on a nice, quiet side street adjacent to the canal. Jamie (aka Jimpster) is the husband of the owner Emma. He is one of the UK's (& world's) top Deep House producer / DJ's and it was predominantly for his monthly night that we travelled across (from South London & St Albans respectively). They had Chicago House Pioneer Lil' Louis playing last Friday - and it was superb. As many of the Chelmsford music heads said to me '10 years ago we would never had DJ's like this playing in Chelmsford!' It's thanks to Emma, Jamie & team that they are able to pull so many top level acts & artists to the city It was a brilliant night - music, sound, lighting, crowd, ambiance & drinks. When we return in a couple of months we will book a hotel & come back for brunch before departing. A lovely space that is helping establish Chelmsford on the wider map with many people such as myself - with great service, a good menu with tasty food, top drinks selection & some cracking music. Thank you Acanteen team. Appreciated!
